Cat World Domination Tactics

There’s a pretty ominous day coming up on the calendar. June 24th is Cat World Domination Day! Are our cute, cuddly feline friends plotting something much more sinister than scoring catnip and lap space? That may very well be the case! A local Cincinnati, OH vet looks at some of the evidence of below.

Kitty Invasion

Cats have been our friends—or perhaps supervisors—for thousands of years. They apparently haven’t changed a bit in that time. Nor have they improved their manners, as evidenced by the discovery of ink kitty pawprints on medieval manuscripts. Then, there’s the fact that our feline pals convinced the ancient Egyptians to basically treat them as deities. We’re beginning to suspect that Fluffy may have simply wandered into some early human’s home, dropped a dead mouse onto the floor, then curled up in front of the fireplace and refused to move.

Meowpulation

Did you know that cats may have started meowing just so they could boss us around? Fluffy rarely ‘speaks’ to other felines, unless one counts the ear-splitting love songs she ‘caterwauls’ when she’s feeling amorous. Actually, it may not be a coincidence that kitty’ meows often sound rather like human babies. This is a purrfect way to tug at our heartstrings, and get us to offer food, lap space, and eventually, catnip, tuna fish, and empty boxes.

Purrs

The purr is another interesting bit of evidence. Cat purrs are extremely soothing, and can be a huge comfort, not to mention a great sleep aid. Kitties may have figured out that turning their little motors on whenever we get suspicious is a great way to lull us into complacency. (Well played, Fluffy. Well played.)

Nap Time

Have you ever wondered why cats sleep so much? Fluffy may not actually be sound asleep during all those naps. She may really be plotting!

Censorship

Our feline overlords have a curious relationship with our books and computers. Somehow, kitties have managed to fill the internet with cat photos. They also often sleep or walk across our keyboards, or on our books and magazines. Is this Fluffy’s way of trying to control what you read? Or does she just disapprove of any activities that take your focus off her? We may never know!
